Psychologist   Therapist   Trainer

Qualifications Explained

There are more letters after my name than in it! This is what they mean: -

BSc Hons - 3-year degree in Psychology that included: -
- how memory, learning and problem solving work and what happens when things go wrong
- how we develop from babies to adulthood and what happens as we age
- the influence of the mind on the body and vice versa
- the importance and effect of being sociable beings and the influence of society on individuals and vice versa

PG Dip Psych Couns - 2-year diploma focusing on understanding our emotional lives and patterns of behaviour

MA Counselling Studies - 2-year research degree. Clients' opinion of therapy is crucial but underexplored. I investigated clients' views on endings in therapy and how these are the same/different from therapists' views

QCoP - A Doctorate level training, the Qualification in Counselling Psychology is awarded by The British Psychological Society (BPS) allowing me to use the title, Chartered Counselling Psychologist

Experience

My 14 years therapeutic expertise and experience includes: general life difficulties, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, bereavement, gender/sexual issues, phobias, addictions, disabilites, cultural/sprititual issues and working with brain injury

I have worked with individuals, couples and groups and worked in a number of countries

I offer "Short-term" therapy (with fixed end date in mind) or "Open-ended" (where no end date is planned at the outset). I have experience of working privately, for Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) - organisations offering therapy to employees on behalf of their employers and for the NHS - working in doctors' surgeries

More recently I have been involved in developing an innovative, collaborative network of all the professions engaged in helping families negotiate separation and/or resolution

I am trained as an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) practitioner. EMDR is specifically aimed at working with the problems that result from trauma - see "Jargon Explained"
